The Marigold Maravilla Plant

The marigold maravilla plant, also known as Calendula officinalis, is an annual plant native to southern Europe. Marigolds have been used as an alternative medicine to treat conditions such as conjunctivitis.
  1. Description

    • The marigold maravilla grows between 12 and 30 inches in height. The leaves are about 4 inches long and the flowers are 3 inches in diameter. The flower petals are yellow and the center is yellow or brown.

    Climate

    • In climates with a cold winter, marigolds bloom in the spring and summer. They die during the first frost. In warm climates, marigolds require partial shade during the afternoon.

    Soil Condition

    • Marigolds require well-draining soil. They can thrive in soils with varying pH levels. They require an average amount of water.

    Propagation

    • Plant seeds in early to mid spring, after the last frost has passed. Just add water and watch the marigolds grow.

    Applications

    • Marigolds make a fine addition to flower beds or containers. Plant them beside other flowers to act as a pest deterrent.
