What Can Be Planted With Wave Petunias?

A wave petunia is a flowering annual with abundant blooms that cascade like a wave over planter boxes, in hanging baskets or across your garden. Coming in a multitude of colors and either single or double flowers, wave petunias work well with many other plants in the garden.
  1. Blue Fescue Grass

    • Although wave petunias are an annual, meaning that you must plant them every year, try pairing them with a perennial such as blue fescue grass for an eye-catching contrast in color and shape.

    Lavender

    • With its tall spiky flowers and grey-green leaves, lavender is another striking companion to wave petunia. It also requires full sun.

    Sweet Alyssum

    • The delicate flowers of the low-growing sweet alyssum contrast beautifully with the wave petunia's larger flowers. Sweet alyssum's slight trailing habit will complement your petunia as well.

    Heliotrope

    • The musky licorice scent and dark purple flowers of the heliotrope make it an excellent companion plant to a white or salmon-colored wave petunia.

    Purchasing

    • Although wave petunias are available at many local nurseries, it's always best to call ahead to assure that your nursery has them in stock. Wave petunias are also offered in many online garden catalogs, such as Park Seed and Burpee.

    Care

    • Wave petunias require full or partial sun and moderate watering. They do well in most climates, filling your summer garden with flowers. To increase bloom production, snip off spent flowers.
