How to Care for an Alyssum Plant

Go ahead and call it an asylum plant, since the alyssum plant has a tendency to take over and drive a gardener crazy. Alyssum, also known as sweet alyssum, is a small, annual flowering plant that grows very fast. It is commonly used in borders and containers and is very attractive planted in a hanging basket where it can cascade over the sides.

      Provide full to partial sun for your alyssum. They aren't particular about the soil in which they are grown other than it needs to be well-drained.

      Water the alyssum once a week. If weather conditions are very dry, you may need to water twice a week.

      Apply an all-purpose fertilizer once a month.

      Pinch off any dead flowers to encourage the plant to continue to bloom.
