Petunias (Petunia) are an annual plant that hails from South America. Their vibrant blooms flower non-stop from spring until frost to create a burst of color in the garden.
Blooming in every color of the rainbow, petunias vary in width from 1 inch all the way up to 6 inches. The blooms are both large and small and can be ruffled, fringed or double. Petunias vary in height from 6 to 18 inches and have a spread up to 4 feet wide. Some petunias, especially white and lavender varieties are noted for their sweet fragrance.
Petunias require full sun and well-drained, nutrient-rich soil. If grown in the shade, they become spindly and have a reduction in blooms. Versatile, petunias grow in moist soils and prefer a soil pH of 6.0 to 7.0
