Blue Cornflower Seeds

The blue cornflower, also known as bachelor button, is a common annual wildflower native to Europe. Easy to grow from seed, the blue cornflower is hardy to all U.S. Department of Agriculture zones except 11.
  1. Sources

    • Many online retailers sell blue cornflower seeds. You can also purchase them at nurseries and gardening centers.

    Planting

    • If you live in a region with mild winters you can plant the blue cornflower seeds outdoors in September. Otherwise, wait until spring, as soon as the danger of frost has passed, to sow the blue cornflower seeds.

    Tips

    • If you are planting a wildflower meadow, use 1 lb. of blue cornflower seed for every 1,500 square feet of planting area. This will give you an almost complete blanket of cornflowers. For a more moderate planting, with a scattered-flower appearance, use 1 lb. for every 4,000 square feet.
