Instructions

    • 1

Clear off a spot on your bathroom counter that doesn't get wet during showers or other bathroom activities. It must be large enough to accommodate the size of the humidifier you have chosen. Place the humidifier on the counter and plug it into a nearby power outlet. Humidifiers vary in size from small to quite large, so select one that fits the area.

    • 2

Tape up the cracks in any windows in the bathroom with masking tape. This keeps the room air-tight. If necessary, put towels in the windows as well to keep the room insulated.

    • 3

Turn on the humidifier and adjust it to its highest setting depending on the type you have chosen. Exit the bathroom and close the door for 25 to 30 minutes while the humidifier preps the room.

    • 4

Return to the bathroom with the rest of your supplies. The room should be warm, humid and steamy due to the humidifier. From the inside of the bathroom, stuff rolled up towels into the crack between the door and the floor to seal yourself into the room. Tape up the side and top cracks of the door with the masking tape. Masking tape is gentle enough to not destroy your paint but it only sticks to the wall long enough for an hour of steaming.

    • 5

Turn your bathroom sink on hot only and let it run. If you have a shower stall and not a bathtub, turn the shower on hot only as well. This creates more steam. If you have a bathtub, do the same, but make sure the tub doesn't fill up with water.

    • 6

Create a cushioned seat in the back of your tub or shower stall, away from the hot water where you can sit comfortably. To do this, fold two or three thick towels and stack them on top of one another. Sit on the towels and prop your back and neck against the nearby wall with your shower pillow.

    • 7

Rub the peppermint massage oil over your unclothed body as the room fills up with steam around you. This creates a tingly sensation on your skin that is quite therapeutic.

    • 8

Grab a ladle full of crushed ice and drop the ice on the shower floor near you. The cold ice will instantly melt and result in steam clouds around you. Drop the washcloth into the bowl of ice.

    • 9

Blot your body with the wash cloth after it has soaked up some ice cold water from the melting ice bowl. This adds to the tingling on your skin and invigorates while you relax in the steam room.
