# How to Harvest Petunias
Petunias are an annual flower garden favorite. They bloom in a variety of colors, from pink to purple and white, giving your yard an abundance of color all summer long. They need full sun and well-drained soil to grow and flower to the best of their ability. Since petunias are annuals, they will die in the fall. If you want to be sure you have petunias in your garden next year, harvesting the petunia seeds will allow you to grow more.

Select the petunia plants with the most vigor and the best blooms. Leave three to four flowers on the plant to create seeds after the other flowers are deadheaded.

Wait for the petunia to lose its petals and the seed pod to form. The seed pod will turn brown and dry out when the seeds are ready to be picked.

Cut the seed pods from the petunia plants. Break open the pods and pour the seeds into a wax envelope. Mark what kind of seeds are in the wax envelope and the color of the seeds as well. Seal the envelope.

Store the petunia seeds in a dry, dark and cool location, like a basement or a garage, until you can sow them.
