How to Make a Fuchsia Seed Sprout

Fuchsia is an annual flower that blooms May through October, under the right conditions. The plant requires partial shade, fertile soil, consistent moisture and quick drainage. The flowers bloom more vigorously when fuchsia receives fertilization at regular intervals through the growing season. Fuchsia is flexible, adapting to life in the flowerbed or in a pot. If you don't want to start a new plant by rooting one of the cuttings, you can sow the seeds.

Things You'll Need

Instructions

    • 1

Fill a flat with seed-starter mix. Pack the soil down with your hands.

    • 2

Broadcast the fuchsia seeds on the surface of the soil. Do not worry about spacing now. The seedlings will be thinned later. Cover the seeds with a fine layer of seed-starter mix. Press the soil down one more time.

    • 3

Set the flat in a shallow tray filled with water. The soil will absorb the moisture through the drainage holes. Refill the tray as needed. Remove the flat when the surface is evenly hydrated.

    • 4

Place the flat where the temperature ranges from 70 to 75 degrees Fahrenheit. Alternatively, keep the container on an electric seed-propagation mat with the thermostat set within that range.

    • 5

Continue to irrigate the seeds to prevent the soil from drying. Germination takes 21 to 28 days.
