How to Get Superbells to Bloom

Superbells are hybrids of the Calibrachoa genus, the same genus to which petunias belong. And much like petunias, Superbells bloom profusely through the spring and summer months on compact but full plants. They are extremely tolerant to heat, don't require deadheading and bloom in a variety of colors, depending on the variety. Superbells are easy to maintain and will bloom with proper care.

Instructions

    • 1

Plant Superbells in well-draining soil. They grow best in soil that has a pH of less than 6.0.

    • 2

Grow Superbells in full sun. They will bloom best if exposed to sunlight for six or more hours of sunlight daily.

    • 3

Feel the top of the soil. When it feels dry, give Superbells about 1 inch of water.

    • 4

Fertilize Superbells monthly with a balanced, water-soluble fertilizer for flowering plants, such as one labeled 20-10-20. Adhere to the rate of application as written on the label.

    • 5

Prune Superbells when the plants seem open and leggy with few blooms. This often occurs in mid- to late summer. Clip the stems back by about 2 inches to encourage branching, fuller growth and more blooms.
