How to Kill Actinidia Kolomikta

Actinidia kolomikta, also known as variegated kiwi vine, is a climbing vine that proffers deep green foliage with pink-white variegation and small white flowers. Quite hardy, it thrives in Zones 4 through 8 and is relatively low-maintenance. The Arctic Beauty cultivar grows well in Zone 3. Actinidia kolomikta prefers sunny to partially shady conditions and moist soil. It tolerates air pollution, so makes an excellent choice for the city garden. This vine can reach a height of 20 feet and a width, or spread, of 2 feet.

Instructions

    • 1

Stop watering the plant. Actinidia kolomikta grows well in moist soil and should not be allowed to dry out. If the soil remains dry, the vine will not be able to draw nutrients from the soil medium. Eventually, it will wither and die.

    • 2

Keep the vine in the ground for more than 10 years. Kiwi vine has a life expectancy of about 10 years. If you leave it in place for a longer period, you can expect it to eventually fail.

    • 3

Plant the vine in a windy spot. As actinidia kolomikta should be kept out of the wind, choosing a windy location can cause it to deteriorate over time.

    • 4

Expose it to a fungus. Fungal diseases significantly undermine the health of the actinidia kolomikta vine. Positioning the vine directly next to a plant that has succumbed to fungus is a good way to expose it to disease. Using groundcover plantings that are infected with fungus is another method.
