# How to Mow Ivy Beds
Ivy is a common ground cover used in landscaping. Ivy beds grow rapidly and develop issues if not mowed regularly. The plants lose foliage, become woody and harbor rodents or other pests. Mowing the ivy beds encourages new, fresh growth and prevents these issues. Use a power lawn mower that has an adjustable height setting to prevent from cutting the ivy all the way back to the ground.

- Lawn mower
- Granular fertilizer

Wait until early spring, after the last frost passes. Do not wait so long that the ivy begins producing new growth.

Set the lawn mower to a height of 3 to 6 inches. Walk the mower over the ivy, starting at the edge of the ground cover and walking toward the back. Turn around and continue mowing in strips until the entire ivy bed is passed over.

Apply an all-purpose, granular fertilizer to the ivy bed after mowing. Follow the package instructions for application. Water the bed until the granular fertilizer dissolves.
