How to Prune a Pink Pandorea Jasminoides Rosea Plant

Pandorea jasminoides "Rosea" is an evergreen flowering vine. Commonly known as the pink bower vine, it produces pink trumpet-shaped flowers with magenta to maroon centers. An Australia native, Pandorea flowers are highly fragrant, drawing hummingbirds and butterflies to the garden. Pandorea loves to climb and needs a strong support, such as an arbor or large trellis. It doesn't require a lot of pruning, but a trim now and then keeps it to the size you desire. Prune the pink Pandorea in early spring.

Instructions

    • 1

Deadhead the pink Pandorea throughout the flowering season by snipping or pinching off dead flowers.

    • 2

Release the portion that you are pruning from any fasteners attaching the vine to the trellis.

    • 3

Prune from the top of the pink Pandorea to the back of it. Remove dead stems and those that appear weak. Make the cuts half an inch above a bud. Remove no more than a third of the plant during each pruning session.

    • 4

Rake the soil around the vine to remove pruning debris. Bag it and dispose of it or compost it.

    • 5

Fertilize the pink Pandorea after pruning with a 5-15-5 fertilizer, at the rate suggested on the label for the size and age of your vine, and water the top 6 inches of soil to soak the fertilizer into the roots.
