How to Prune Peter Pan Saxifraga

Peter Pan is a named cultivar of the mossy Saxifraga species. It is an evergreen perennial and blooms in hues of pink from the early spring to early summer. It has a lightly spreading and trailing growth habit but rarely extends beyond a foot in diameter and 6 inches tall. As with all ground covers, pruning maintenance is limited to removing dead tissues and keeping the plant within designated boundaries, if desired.

Instructions

    • 1

Prune your Peter Pan Saxifraga in the early to mid summer immediately after the flowers have finished blooming for the year.

    • 2

Cut away any dead or diseased foliage and woody stems and also cut back any stems that have become defoliated. Take these down to a point of live, healthy tissue, or all the way down to the soil line.

    • 3

Shrink the boundaries of the plant by reducing the tips of branches that extend beyond the desired boundaries. Place cuts just above a healthy leaf node.

    • 4

Collect all of the cuttings carefully so that they are not left to decay in the ground cover, marring its appearance and inviting disease or pests.
