Wait until late winter to prune the Tangerine Crossvine, just before it starts to green up or produce flowers.
Examine the length of the vines to see if they are growing into walkways, paths, or other areas of foot traffic. Cut the vines back to any length using pruning shears.
Rake up all the clipped vines, since they will sprout if left on the ground.
Prune once more in midsummer only if the vines are growing again outside the desired space.
In late summer, after the flowers have wilted and dropped off, examine the vine for any stems that are brown or leafless. Trace the dead vines all the way back to the base of the plant or where they emerge from the soil. Cut the dead stems at the soil line with hand pruners, and throw them into a compost area or the trash.
