How to Grow Tiny Vines

Vines take advantage of vertical growing space and use nearly anything for support, so do not plant vines near any upright plants that they can strangle. Tiny vines are smaller and more delicate in appearance than the full-sized vines; they are frequently grown in containers. Growing miniature vines gives more plant options for smaller spaces.

Instructions

    • 1

Wash a plant pot with soapy water and rinse it with one part bleach mixed with nine parts water. This eliminates any plant disease infection and lurking insect pests. Fill the plant pot with potting soil and insert a vertical support like a small trellis in the back edge of the pot.

    • 2

Dig a hole in the center of the soil with a hand trowel as deep as the tiny vine's root ball. Place the plant in the hole and firm the soil around the stem to hold the plant in place.

    • 3

Wind the tiny vine around the bottom of the trellis. For extra support, gently tie the vine to the trellis with a strip of soft, stretchy cloth. As the vine grows, train it to climb up the support.

    • 4

Pour water in the top of the container until it runs out the bottom. Let the water drain well and remove any excess water from the water-catching tray. Water whenever the soil feels dry to the touch.

    • 5

Feed the tiny vines with half-strength 10-10-10 water-soluble fertilizer once a week during the summer. Let the vine rest during the winter months when temperatures are cooler.
