Fertilizer Needs of the Pandorea Jasminoides Rosea Superba Plant

Pandorea jasminoides is a fast-growing, woody, evergreen, twining vine with deep green leaves and fragrant clusters of tubular flowers that bloom spring through summer. The pandorea jasminoides cultivar "Rosea Superba" is known for its vibrant pink blossoms. Pandorea jasminoides "Rosea Superba" plants may be cultivated successfully in U.S. Department of Agriculture plant hardiness zones 9 through 11. Regular applications of fertilizer help to keep your pandorea jasminoides vines blooming heartily all season long.
  1. Site Selection

    • Pandorea jasminoides vines may be grown in full to partial sunlight, though they bloom most profusely when cultivated in sites that consistently receive direct sunlight for six or more hours per day. According to Floridata, pandorea jasminoides also appreciates moist, fertile and well-drained soils. Pandorea jasminoides is a twining vine that performs best when trained to a support. Select a planting location near a fence, trellis, arbor or pergola, or erect a similar support system at the site of your choice.

    Soil Preparation and Planting

    • Pandorea jasminoides prefers organically enriched soil that contains plenty of nutrients. Loosen and amend the soil in your garden bed prior to planting; work a 6 inch layer of equal parts leaf mold compost, perlite and peat moss into the soil to a depth of 4 to 6 inches. Plant pandorea jasminoides "Rosea Superba" in your garden or home landscape at the same depth that it grew in the nursery to ensure healthy root growth and development.

    Irrigation

    • Edward F. Gilman of the University of Florida Cooperative Extension Service advises that pandorea jasminoides requires ample moisture to complete a healthy blooming cycle. Irrigate Rosea Superba regularly while the vines are actively growing and flowering. One inch of supplemental irrigation per week is usually sufficient; more irrigation may be needed in dry climates. Water pandorea jasminoides sparingly in the winter, when the plant is dormant; reduce irrigation frequency to once every two to three weeks.

    Fertilization

    • Pandorea jasminoides must have a steady supply of nutrients during their active growth phase to set and open healthy blooms. Fertilize the vines with a balanced, water-soluble garden fertilizer in the early spring. When pandorea jasminoides starts setting its buds, feed your vines with a half-strength solution of a water-soluble, high-phosphorus fertilizer. Apply subsequent half-strength applications at the beginning of each month until the vines complete their blooming cycle. Use fertilizer products according to the accompanying instructions.
