Plant Anacampseros telephiastrum variegata succulents in a spot that gets sun in the morning and shade in the afternoon. Select an area that has rocky or sandy soil and good drainage, such as a rock garden or rock wall.
Dig a hole slightly bigger than the nursery pot. Slide the succulent out of the pot and place it in the hole. Fill in the soil around it.
Water Anacampseros telephiastrum variegata plants once a week. Use a soaker setting and let the water penetrate the soil at least 6 inches deep.
Fertilize once a week using a balanced 10-10-10 fertilizer. Apply the fertilizer as indicated on the label but dilute the amount to one-fourth the recommended strength.
Select a pot that is 1 to 2 inches wider at the top than the nursery pot the Anacampseros telephiastrum variegata succulent is in.
Fill the container with a potting mix formulated for cacti. Commercial mixes are available at home and garden stores, or a homemade mix of equal parts sand, compost and grit works well.
Slide the succulent out of the nursery pot and plant it in the new container with the base of the stem level with the soil line. Leave 1/2 inch to 1 inch between the soil line and the top of the pot to leave space for watering.
Soak the pot once a week. The Cactus & Succulent Society of San Jose recommends mixing a balanced 10-10-10 fertilizer into the water at one-fourth the strength listed on the label.
Keep the pot in an area that gets filtered light throughout the day. You can keep plants outdoors during summer but move them inside in the fall before temperatures drop below 40 degrees Fahrenheit.
