How to Germinate Herniaria Glabra

Herniaria glabra is the botanical name for a plant that is commercially sold under the nickname “rupturewort,” left over from the days when the plant was used as a poultice for scrapes and cuts. A patented variety, “Green Carpet,” is commonly sold in nurseries and gardening centers. H. glabra is an ornamental groundcover, native to England. Growing to 2 inches tall, although it creeps, it has a taproot, instead of rhizomes like other creepers. H. glabra thrives in poor, sandy soil in full sun or partial shade. Herniaria glabra is best grown within zones 7 and above on the US Department of Agriculture Plant Hardiness Zone Map.
