How to Germinate Lamium Seed

Lamium is a perennial ground cover, also known as spotted dead nettle. It thrives in dappled sunlight and spreads by runners. The plant's spread is easily controlled through shearing and pruning. Lamium bears small flowers in spring through summer; flower color depends on variety. Although you will get quicker growth and cover with purchased starter plants, it is possible to grow lamium from seed started indoors in winter.

Instructions

    • 1

Stratify the lamium seeds by placing them ½ inch deep in a small nursery pot filled with moist sand. Place the pot in an area that remains between 65 and 70 degrees Fahrenheit for four weeks. Light is unimportant during this period, but moisture is vital. Keep the sand moist at all times.

    • 2

Place the nursery pot in the refrigerator for four weeks. Again, don't allow the soil to dry out during this period.

    • 3

Remove the pot from the refrigerator, and place it in an area that remains between 41 and 53 degrees Fahrenheit, in indirect sunlight, for germination. This typically occurs within 30 to 60 days.
