How to Make a Wire Arbor for Jasmine

Jasmine brings lush, vining growth and sweet-smelling blooms to the home garden, but comes with some considerations. These vines can grow to 15 to 20 feet in height, with 12 to 24 inches of quick growth every year, and require a lot of space. Their vining growth also requires a structure for support, training and control. Build a moveable and expandable wire trellis to support your jasmine, and move it as necessary to accommodate plant growth.

Instructions

    • 1

Place two 3- to 5-gallon pots at either end of the jasmine growing site. If the jasmine stretches farther than 5 to 7 feet in width, add a third pot at the center for better trellis stability.

    • 2

Mix quick-set concrete in an expendable bucket, per the directions on the package, and work with one pot and stake combination at a time. Hold the stake steady in the pot and pour concrete around it to fill the pot one-half full. Hold the stake upright until the concrete sets to keep it from falling over. Repeat this process with the other stakes and allow 12 hours for the concrete to set fully.

    • 3

Wrap wire around the top of one of the end stakes to secure it. Stretch the wire to the second and third stakes, wrapping it at each stake to attach it. Clip the wire at the last stake and secure it. Repeat this process with seven to 10 tiers for full jasmine coverage.

    • 4

Stretch pieces of twine vertically between the wires at every 2 to 3 feet and tie them off to give jasmine tendrils additional footholds and direction.

    • 5

Tie the jasmine vines to both the wire and twine to train and direct them and then allow them to progress on their own. Jasmine clings to wires and does not need help in regards to growing along the wires. Tie it and prune it for training and direction.
