How to Grow Creepers on a Wall

As the name suggests, creepers are plants that grow and spread by creeping, usually along the ground. The tendrils of creepers grip rough surfaces. When plants are left unattended, they "creep" up and over anything in their path. This characteristic makes the creeper an ideal plant for covering unsightly walls or giving a house an English country cottage look.

Instructions

Choose the type of creeper that grows best in your area. Ivy and winter Jasmine do best in areas that are damp and shady, while passion flowers and honeysuckle prefer sun and dryer soil. Other popular creepers include Virginia creeper and flowering wisteria.

Plant your chosen creeper at the base of the wall. The plant will reach upward and spread.

Prune the creeper vines as they grow to keep them in shape. Although many creepers do not require pruning, cutting back the vines will keep them from growing too heavily in one specific place. Wait to prune flowering creepers until after they have bloomed. Refrain from major pruning of established creepers until plants are dormant in the winter.
