Anchor a trellis or similarly constructed landscaping material to the wall for vines that require support. These vines will grow intertwined with the trellis, giving your home a whimsical appearance. Attach the trellis so that it does not touch the wall directly, but rather rests 1 or 2 inches away from the wall. This gives the plants room to breathe and helps prevent moisture against the wall.
Train the vine to climb the wall on its own. Vines that can do this often have small "feet," or extensions, that adhere to a surface. The vines might require a bit of coaxing when they are young. To encourage these vines to grow upward along the stucco wall, insert a stake or similar object into the ground, against the wall, near the new vine. Tie the vine somewhat closely to the stake using thick string or strips of fabric. Adjust the tie as the vine grows and develops its own shape.
Support the vine using nails or hooks. This can be suitable for vines that cannot cling unaided but that need only minimal support. If you are comfortable making small holes in your stucco wall, insert a few nails or hooks along the vine's growing path. These small items can offer support to heavier extensions, encouraging the vine to continue to grow up and outward. Assist the vine by arranging the stem so that it rests on the nails or hooks.
