How to Hang Wall Vines

Vines on a wall can contribute to the theme of a room's decor or add to the appearance of an interior room. Similarly, they can enhance landscapes that include exterior walls and hide unattractive vertical garden features like concrete walls or chain-link fences. You can use faux silk vines or live ones. Use your imagination to hang wall vines to achieve a personalized living space.

Instructions

  1. Exterior Wall Vines

    • 1

Set small pots or window boxes of hanging vine plants on top of an exterior concrete or brick wall. Let the vines hang down in front of the wall. Use vine plants suitable for the climate and location of the wall. Take amount of sunshine and temperature ranges into account when selecting your vines.

    • 2

Plant vines at the base of the wall and let them climb up the wall. This method also works well to hide chain-link and other wire fences. You can also plant the vines in small pots or window boxes and set them on the ground in front of the wall.

    • 3

Protect your wall from the ravages of climbing vines by installing a trellis in front of the wall for the vines to climb. Employ a trellis planter to keep the vine contained all in one container so you can move it indoors in cold weather.

    Interior Wall Vines

    • 4

Use live potted vine plants or faux silk vines inside. You can even make your own vines out of twisted paper bags and other materials. If you use live vines, place the pots in locations where the vines receive enough sunlight. Give them the proper temperature and water.

    • 5

Attach screw eyelets to interior walls and connect them with string to create something for live vines to climb on. This allows you to control the pattern of the vines on the wall. Staple faux vines directly to the walls.

    • 6

Arrange the vines around the top of walls instead of using wallpaper border. Use them to hide speaker wire. Place pots of vines on top shelves or on top of kitchen cabinets. Hang the vines on the wall in hard to decorate areas such as entryways or stairwells. Use them to enhance a theme in a room; for example, use grapevines to add to a wine-themed room.
