Watch the leaves. If you see lots of holes in the leaves of your plants or see them changing in any way, it's time to take some action.
Get BLEACHED flour from the store. You can just buy plain old bleached flour. Bugs won't eat it.
Get a container with a wide mouth and screw-on-top that has holes in the top. Put the bleached flour in the container.
Sprinkle your plant leaves liberally with the flour. You can sprinkle it on the ground around the plant too, but the leaves are most important.
Repeat this step after it rains or if you see that the bugs are eating holes in your plant leaves again.
Although this will not get rid of ALL the bugs that feed on your garden plants, it will take care of many of them. What harm or cost is it to sprinkle some flour on your plants? If it doesn't work, you can resort to spending more money or getting a strong chemical. If it does work, then you have saved yourself some money and taken care of your plants without using any harsh chemicals.
