Cardinal Ethanol LLC was initially organized in 2005. Ethanol production commenced in November of 2008. According to the company's website, when full production is achieved, the plant will produce approximately 100 million gallons of ethanol using about 36 million bushels of shelled corn as feedstock. The plant will also be capable of producing 320,000 of dried distillers grains, which is commonly used as feed for livestock.

Located in Wentworth, South Dakota, Dakota Ethanol's member-owned facility began production in 2001. According to the company website, the plant annually consumes 17 million bushels of shelled corn feedstock to produce 48 million gallons of ethanol. As with Cardinal Ethanol, the facility also produces dried distillers grains for use as livestock feed.

Located in Craig, Missouri, Golden Triangle Energy opened its doors in 2001. The company website indicates that the facility uses 20,000 bushels of corn each day to produce 14 million gallons of high-quality grain-neutral spirits on an annual basis. The company also produces livestock feed as a by-product of the distillation process. Annual feed production of both wet and dry distillers grains totals 117,000 tons.

Kansas Ethanol's facility came on-line in 2008. Using corn, milo and grain sorghum, the plant has an annual production capacity of 55 million gallons of fuel-grade ethanol. According to the Kansas Department of Agriculture, Kansas Ethanol is one of 13 Kansas-based ethanol producers using the dry mill method of production. The department also states that Kansas produces over 500 million gallons of ethanol on an annual basis.
