DIY Plant Watering Globe

If you are planning to go away on vacation, you don't necessarily need to have someone come over to water your plants. One approach is to purchase aqua globes that create a decorative form of drip irrigation for each plant. Another approach utilizes what is likely already available around your home. You can easily convert glass vinegar or oil bottles, wine bottles or even plastic bottles into plant watering globes in a few simple steps. Give your DIY watering globes individualized personality by decorating them with paint and accessories.

Instructions

    • 1
Use glass bottles of all shapes, sizes and colors for this project.

Remove the lid and plastic liquid restrictor plate from a 10 oz. bottle, such as one that was used for oil or vinegar. Place the funnel on top of bottle and pour 1/2 cup of baking soda into the bottle. Fill with water and let it set. Place the lid back on and shake the bottle to thoroughly clean it out.

    • 2
Warm, soapy water will help you remove the label off the bottle along with some elbow grease.

Remove the lid and pour out the contents into the sink. Place the bottle, restrictor lid and plastic lid into a sink with warm, soapy water. Clean the bottle inside and out along with the lids. Remove any labels by scraping them with a scrub brush; if any residue remains, treat with white vinegar until the label is removed.

    • 3
Decorate the bottles with leftover paint from other projects.

Place the bottle on a dowel rod outside to dry. Decorate with paint and/or accessories such as marbles, seashells or stones. Let the decorations completely dry.

An old wooden board is a perfect work surface when drilling the hole in the lid.

Place the plastic lid on a hard surface. Drill two holes in the middle of the top plastic lid with a 1/4-inch drill bit.

Put the bottle back together after filling it with water and push it into the soil of the container or garden.

Fill the bottle with water and place the restrictor lid back on the bottle. Place the remaining lid on the bottle and push the bottle down into the soil at an angle.
