Vermicomposting is the process of using worms to convert kitchen scraps and garden waste into rich, usable compost. Worms are kept in a bin and fed plant matter, which they eat and convert to castings.
Worm castings are rich in available nutrients and make excellent fertilizer. Castings can be mixed with potting soil and used for planting new plants, or they can be used as top dressing and added to the soil around existing plants.
Worm tea is a liquid fertilizer made from worm castings and water. Worm tea is rich in organic nutrients and will not burn plants or their roots. Worm castings are soaked in water, strained and used to water plants, feeding them at the same time.
