Compost Tumbler Sizes

A compost tumbler is a barrel made to assist in the production of compost. The tumbler allows for easy turning of the composted plant matter through the use of a crank or rollers. The size of tumbler you'll need depends on how much compost you want to create.
  1. Small

    • Compost tumblers can be purchased or made in almost any size. The minimum size must still be large enough to allow the composting process to take place. Commercial tumblers as small as 45 gallons are available.

    Large

    • For those whose homes or yards produce large amounts of organic waste, larger tumblers can be purchased. These can hold as many as 180 gallons of leaves, scraps and other plant material.

    Dual

    • A dual composter is a barrel that is divided in half, and each half is filled separately from the other. This allows for a continuous supply of compost to be made, as scraps can be added to one side while the other side is finishing the composting process.
