Certain grass seeds from both the warm-season and cool-season grass groups adapt to sunny areas. These include the warm-season St. Augustinegrass and zoysiagrass and the cool season tall fescue.
St. Augustinegrass is a medium green grass with broad blades and a creeping growth habit. Dark green zoysiagrass has a medium to fine texture with short narrow blades. The grass spreads by rhizomes and stolons. Tall fescue is dark green in color, coarse textured and has a bunching growth.
St. Augustinegrass has a very good tolerance for sun and heat and a low water requirement. Zoysiagrass is also water-efficient and thrives best in full sun. It is a low-maintenance grass and is highly tolerant of drought and heavy traffic. Tall fescue grass is well-suited for sunny sites and keeps its color throughout the year in areas with cool, moderate winters. The grass is highly drought-tolerant and requires little maintenance.
