Recycled Landscaping Materials

Recycling landscaping materials has multiple benefits. Foremost among these is the fact that by recycling, less trash ends up in landfills. At the same time, using recycled products typically is more economical than buying new. Recycling also conserves resources by re-using existing materials.
  1. Hydraulic Mulch

    • Hydraulic mulch is made from 100% recycled paper. This then is mixed with grass or other seeds and sprayed in areas, such as roadsides, lawns and parks. The mulch stabilizes the ground and protects the seeds, which helps them to grow.

    Landscaping Timbers

    • Many landscaping projects can use recycled timbers, such as old railroad ties, or composite lumber made of recycled milk bottles and plastic bags. These timbers can be used to create raised beds for gardens, walkways, benches or other projects.

    Compost

    • Composting is a means of recycling that can be done on a large scale, creating soil enhancement for parks, office buildings and other public areas. It also can be done by individuals, turning kitchen and yard waste into garden fertilizer.
