How to Pack Flowers

If you are shipping flowers, pay special attention to the packing so the flowers won't be damaged. Sturdy boxes designed for floral shipping help protect the flowers and maintain some humidity. These boxes usually have holes on the end to provide air circulation. Cool the flowers after packing and before shipping. In commercial shipping, cooling typically involves forcing cool air through the box for about 30 minutes in a refrigerated area.

Instructions

    • 1

Layer the bottom of the box with one or two sheets of newspaper. Use a box designed for shipping flowers that has a wax or plastic liner to maintain humidity.

    • 2

Lay a sheet of newspaper on the counter.

    • 3

Lay a few flowers on the sheet at one end. The flowers should be on the newspaper and not touching the counter.

    • 4

Roll a cone-like shape around the flowers. Handle gently and wrap loosely.

    • 5

Lay the newspaper-wrapped bunch in the box and then repeat the previous step with the remaining flowers. Continue until the box is full. Do not crowd the box.

    • 6

Place the lid on the box and tape it closed securely.
