Autumn Gerberas

Gerbera daisies have layers of petals that create a heavy yet rich blossom for floral arrangements. The flowers are grown for potted plants, seedlings for flower beds and cut flower production. The blossoms grow on a thick stem that is slightly curved. They are readily available all year round. Many Gerbera colors are suitable for autumn decor.
  1. Color

    • Gerbera daisies have stunning colors for autumn borders, containers and floral designs. The long petals come in yellow, orange, red, maroon and white for your fall displays. The centers of the flowers add to the beauty of an autumn arrangement with the large brown, yellow and orange colors. The gold color of the Pompano and Faith Gerbera cultivars, combined with yellow Fusion, which has a brown center encircled by an orange ring, is one pleasing fall combination. Add the deep red Scenario for a dark autumn shade. An arrangement of deep orange Powerplay Gerbera can highlight a Halloween centerpiece.

    Plants

    • The plants that you set into the ground after the danger of frost is past are fully mature when the cool days of autumn arrives. The Gerber daisy will be in full bloom from stems that are 10 to 12 inches in height. The flowers can be harvested for floral arrangements and fall wedding designs. Flowers can be cut throughout the summer which promotes new growth and flowering into the autumn season.

    Cut Flowers

    • Certain varieties of Gerberas are grown to be harvested in the fall. Growers identify plants and vibrant colors that will provide strong stems, heavy petal mass and lasting blooms during the season from September to November. When cared for properly, Gerbera daisies can last two to three weeks in floral arrangements or vases of fresh water.

    Fall Weddings

    • Yellow River, the orange Calypso, and fuchsia-colored Dark Serena are some of the sturdy blossoms provided for wedding bouquets and decorative pieces. Dark centers that are surrounded by frilled inner sepals add to the elegance of the large flowers. The autumn-hued Gerberas match well with yellow, orange or maroon roses and brown embellishments. Gerberas can be gathered in loose bouquets, wired for corsages or inserted into floral foam for a wedding centerpiece or bridal bouquet.
