How to Make a Heart Flower Arrangement With Carnations

Decide on the color of your heart arrangement. Carnations come in a variety of colors, so you can select classic pink or do something interesting with other colors. Go to your local market and pick up several bunches of carnations, depending on the size of your heart foam.

Fill a large bowl with warm water and add the instructed amount of flower food to the bowl. Gently place the foam heart within the bowl. Allow the foam heart to soak in the mixture for at least 30 minutes. This will help ensure that the carnations remain hydrated and healthy.

Spread out all the carnation flowers. Using the floral shears, cut the carnations so they are approximately 2 inches long. All flowers should be the same length so they appear uniform when arranged.

Remove the foam heart from the water and flower food mixture. Set it on a flat surface with a towel underneath to avoid drips on the work surface.

Begin placing carnations directly in the center of the heart. Stick one carnation in at a time. Start off with one straight, even line. Do not overcrowd the flowers.

Continue adding the flowers in equal rows, keeping the look as uniform as possible.

Examine the heart foam with the carnations. Begin sticking in carnations wherever there are bare spots. The heart foam should be completely covered with flowers. Ensure that the flowers are at equal heights for an elegant look.
