Cut a plastic bag so that it is 1 inch shorter than the basket. Lower the bag into the basket. The bag will prevent water and potting media from seeping out of the basket.
Line the bottom of the basket with a layer of floral foam, if it is deep. This gives the orchids height. You can also stagger the blocks of foam to give the plants varied height.
Lower the orchids into the basket in their pots. Arrange the orchids on the foam until they are in the order and at the height you want.
Fill the basket with equal parts coarse bark and sphagnum moss and transplant the orchids from their pots to the basket. Plant them at the same depth they were in the pots. You can also leave them in their original pots and just pour the potting media around the pots to stabilize them.
Cover the planting medium with a layer of decorative moss. Put two to three ice cubes around each orchid base to water them.
