How to Make Floral Combinations

Floral patterns offer a range of home-decorating possibilities. Combinations of floral wall patterns with floral accents can make any room in your house stand out. Like any pattern, however, careful combination of these elements is required to avoid creating a room decor that overpowers the room itself or where the elements cancel one another out. While this is subjective and dependent upon individual taste, there are guidelines you can follow to help you incorporate floral combinations effectively in your home for maximum appeal.

Instructions

    • 1

Write down some ideas for your floral theme. Note the colors of the room and the colors you feel will complement the room. Describe the feel you are aiming for. Examples to consider include a simple country design or an elegant, more formal approach. The personality you elect to work with will dictate the floral patterns and accents.

Hang wallpaper or a wall border that sets the tone for the room. This will be the most outstanding feature of the room. Everything else in the room will play off the wall paper or the wall border. If you use floral wallpaper, select a plain wall border. If you use a floral pattern wall border, consider a plain wallpaper. This will help you avoid having too much visual activity on your walls. Choose light colors to make a room bigger and dark colors to make it feel more cozy and confined.

    • 3

Select curtains that match the floral pattern on your wall or complement it. Use the same color or shades of the color to balance the room. Avoid an entirely different floral pattern with curtains to prevent a clash of patterns that can make the room feel unfocused.

Place floral and non-floral accents around the room that accent the color of your wallpaper or border. Match accents, such as vases filled with silk flowers, wall hangings with carved floral designs or metal or wooden sculptures, to create a modern effect. Lighter shades of the same color for your accents will work, as well as colors that provide a contrast to the wall. This can help open up a room and make it appear uncluttered.
