Dimensions of White Peonies

White peonies, with their purity of color, aromatic fragrance, and blooms stretching out to five to six inches in diameter, have long been considered the ultimate bridal bouquet. Their large size and showiness can be flaunted in a bouquet, or made simple and eloquent with a single bloom.
  1. Color variations

    • Delicate blooms are in wedding bouquets.

Varying in color from the purest white to cream or white with edgings of the palest pink, the white peony can have a single or double bloom. Some varieties have flowers about 2.5 inches in diameter, but the most common size is five inches. The plant itself grows between 2 to 4 feet in height. The names of many white peony varieties reflect their popularity in weddings. Such names include Bridal Gown and Bridal Shower. Other popular varieties of white peonies include Bowl of Cream, Festiva Maxima, Gardenia and Top Brass.

    Popular flower

    • White peonies are often used in bridal bouquets.

Greatly revered in China, the white peony is the source of medicinal mixtures, even though all parts of the peony taken in excess are toxic. The double-bloomed white peony is generally the most fragrant of flowers and it is often planted near entryways. Clusters of peonies can go virtually unattended for almost 20 years without any ill repercussions.

    Peony planting

    • Peonies can have fern-like leaves or broad leaves.

White peony plants are tuberous rooter perennials and they grow well in clusters. They need fertile and well-drained soil and lots of rooms for their roots to spread out. They prefer full sun although the delicate white peony can survive in partial shade. If you need to divide a cluster of plants, do it in September. The size of the leaves of the peony are unique to each variety. Most are green, but some are red. Their shapes can range from a fernlike, wispy grass appearance to a large, broad leave.

    Problems

    • White peonies need sunshine and care.

To produce the largest blooms of the white peony, it is important to guard against conditions that prohibit its growth. This includes too much shade, too much competition from other garden plants and diseases such as botrytis blight and phytophthora blight. These disease often prevent the flower from forming properly.
