Which Flowers Regrow From Wilted Petals?

Nothing depresses a once-beautiful summer garden quite like wilting flowers and blooms. Either from neglect, intense heat or abnormal weather conditions, the look of pitiful blooms completely spent before the season finishes is nothing short of discouraging for many home gardeners. Luckily, there are many flowers and plants that will regrow and revive from wilted blooms and petals. Many annual flowers, in particular, are hardy against drought and, with tender care and special attention, will delightfully light up the garden with flowers once again.
  1. Pansies

    • Pansies start their blooming season in early spring and continue throughout summer and into fall. With this long of a blooming period, occasional wilted flowers are quite common. Pansies need full sun to partial shade to thrive, as well as moderate watering in well-draining soil. Cut back spent blooms by several inches and water lightly during periods of wilt. Take care to water frequently and remove plants from the sun during heat waves, if possible. Blooms should regrow within a couple of weeks.

    Impatiens

    • The impatiens is another annual flower that blooms throughout spring and into fall. They require partial to full shade for optimal growth. Impatiens have a low tolerance of drought, so be sure to water frequently. During periods of wilt, be sure to partially shade the flower and provide plenty of water to encourage fresh, new growth. Cut back spent flowers to allow new ones to grow.

    Petunias

    • Petunias boast a moderate tolerance of drought and bloom throughout spring and summer. They do best in full-sun exposures, although they are tolerant of slight shade. Restore blooms with frequent watering, cutting back spent blooms and increasing exposure to sun. Note that as an annual flower, petunias will gradually die off during early fall and cannot be fully restored for another season.

    Marigolds

    • The golden, yellow-orange blooms of marigolds grace home gardens and landscapes throughout spring and into fall. They are vigorous growers and have a moderate tolerance of drought. Most blooms can be restored fairly easily during the growing season with a little water and sun. Marigolds require full sun for optimal blooming.

    Cosmos

    • Cosmos bloom in a wide variety of colors.

The dainty, delicate flowers known as cosmos bloom throughout spring and into fall. These flowers, like marigolds, need full sun exposure for growth. Cosmos need frequent light waterings for best results. Wilted blooms can be restored in a few weeks with extra care, water and sun. During excessive heat waves, be sure to move or shade the flowers to prevent future wilting.
