Sweet Pea Pot Craft

Sweet peas are lovely plants that produce purple and pink flowers. A decorated pot with a bag of soil and sweet pea seeds is the perfect gift for a teacher, parent or grandparent. Kids can get involved in decorating the pot themselves to make the present even more special. It makes a cute Valentine's Day gift or you can decorate the pot for any other holiday or occasion.
  1. Supplies

    • For this craft, a small terra-cotta planter pot will be needed. Use acrylic paints and paintbrushes along with items such as sponge stamps, stencils, craft glue and beads, crystals or mirrors to create embellishments. Purchase some potting soil and sweet pea seeds. Choose a colorful cellophane bag and some ribbon to tie around it. Make a small card to include with the gift.

    Decoration

    • Paint a clay pot with acrylic craft paints. Use stencils to paint designs or select sponge stamps to stamp flowers, hearts or dots onto the pot. Heavy-duty craft glue can be used to create a bead or mirror mosaic on the pot or to add a line of sparkling rhinestones or beads around the rim. Another option is to apply paint to kids' palms and press their hand prints onto the pot or use a paintbrush to write a message, saying or name on the pot.

    Soil

    • Fill the cellophane bag with some potting soil and either sprinkle the seeds into the soil or leave the seeds in the packet and place it in the pot. Don't overfill the bag; when the recipient opens it, you don't want soil to spill out. If there are specific growing instructions for the sweet peas that the recipient needs to know, include a handwritten or typed note.

    Putting It Together

    • Write a message on the card along the lines of "Sweet peas for my sweet pea" or something cute that goes with the flower or plant theme, depending on the occasion. Tie the bag of soil with a pretty ribbon and create a bow. Match the ribbon to the colors in the pot or seed envelope. You can attach the card onto the ribbon before you tie the bow or tuck the card into the pot.
