How to Make an Ornament With a Rose Bud

Fill a decorated tree with fragrant rosebud ornaments for an elegant party, banquet, wedding reception or Victorian Christmas. The fresh rosebuds will add a natural beauty to the tree decorations. Allow the flowers to dry for a keepsake ornament to commemorate the day or family gathering. Pass the ornaments out to departing guests as a small token of appreciation when the event is over. The small ornaments can be hung or placed on the branches of the tree or a wreath.

Instructions

    • 1

Cut a piece of florist wire with wire cutters to a length of 6 inches. Push the wire through the thick portion of the stem of the rosebud, near the bottom of the petals. Bend the wire down on each side of the stem. Wrap one end of the wire around the stem and the other wire piece two times. Set the rose on the work table.

    • 2

Cut a 10-inch piece of gold cording. Tie a knot in the ends to form a secure loop.

    • 3

Set the gold loop against the stem of the rosebud. Wrap the stem, loop bottom and wires with floral tape to conceal the wire and secure the loop in place for a hanger. Wrap the tape on an angle. It will stick to itself as you pull and wrap. Place the pearl spray wire against the stem and wrap floral tape around it to secure it to the rosebud stem.

Cut a 7-inch-long piece of 1/2-inch-wide lace or ribbon. Tie a knot in the middle of the lace or ribbon and set it on the work table.

    • 5

Roll out 1 foot of the lace or ribbon from the spool. Pinch the lace or ribbon at a length of 2 to 3 inches from the end. Make a 1-inch-long loop and hold it between your fingers. Twist the fabric once and form a second loop opposite the first one. Twist and form two more loops for a fluffy little bow.

    • 6

Pick up the knotted length of lace or ribbon in your free hand. Center the knot over the middle of the small bow. Tie the loose ends of the knotted fabric at the back of the bow tightly. Cut the end of the lace or ribbon from the spool.

Tie the bow to the floral tape-wrapped stem of the rosebud. Cut the ends of the lace or ribbon on a slant for a neater appearance.
