How to Fix an Ugly Flower Arrangement

Although most florists are skilled at their jobs, not everyone has the same taste when it comes to flowers. For some people, certain flowers have bad connotations, or they are too fragrant for their personal taste. If you’ve been given a flower arrangement that is not to your liking, don’t throw it away. Instead, use your creativity to give the arrangement a new and improved look.

Instructions

    • 1

Remove the flowers from the vase, or pull them out of the anchor foam. If you really detest the flower arrangement, it is best to start from a clean slate so that you can make the arrangement exactly how you want it to look.

    • 2

Discard any flowers that you do not like. Replace the unwanted flowers with new ones. If you're unsure of what colors work well together, use a color wheel to help you choose your flowers. For example, orange and purple flowers look nice together because orange and purple are complementary colors. Use a pair of scissors to trim the ends of your new flowers to the desired length.

    • 3

Cut the remaining flowers to the appropriate length. When arranging flowers in a vase or in a foam base your favorite flowers should be the longest as they sit in the center of the bouquet. Flowers with long stems such as roses, carnations, and lilies work well in the center of a bouquet. Trim all the flowers according to how prominent you want them to be in the bouquet.

    • 4

Arrange the flowers in your vase or insert them into the foam. The flowers in the center should be the tallest and the shorter flowers should surround the center, to create a rounded shape.

Add greenery in between the flowers to complete the arrangement.
