What Do You Need to Make a Pineapple Tree Stand?

Pineapple trees are typically large plants that require a few feet of vertical and horizontal space to properly grow and flower. If you grow a pineapple tree indoors and want to build a stand for it, consider the eventual size of the fully matured tree to avoid building a stand that cannot support the weight of the plant.
  1. Base Support

    • The base for your pineapple tree stand must be made of materials strong enough to support the weight of a fully mature pineapple tree. Your tree could weigh 50 pounds or more once it fully grows, so dense wood or metal is ideal for the stand. If you use wood for your pineapple tree stand, choose solid cuts of pine, oak or mahogany, not wood laminates or pressed wood.

    Tree Pot

    • Your pineapple tree stand must have a pot in which to hold the roots of the pineapple tree. You cannot set a pineapple tree on the base of the stand without a container to hold the water and soil needed for the tree to flower.

Choose a pot for your pineapple tree stand with a diameter of at least 1 foot to accommodate the growth of the large tree. The pot should have a hole for water drainage. Pineapple trees can have damp soil, but not visibly wet soil. Drainage holes ensure that water does not collect in the pot.

Buy a pot for your pineapple tree before building the base to ensure that you build a tree stand base big enough to support the pot.

    Tree Support

    • Your pineapple tree stand should include a central support structure that ensures the straight and upward growth of the pineapple tree. Wooden or metal poles with small diameters are typically used as supports for growing trees. Use metal twine or rope to loosely tie the pineapple tree to the pole. The pole can either attach to the base of your pineapple tree stand and run through the bottom of the tree pot, or you can stick the pole in the soil of the pot.

    Tools

    • To build the base of your pineapple tree stand, you need a small jigsaw, screws and an electric screwdriver. A pencil and ruler are also needed to trace out the shapes of your stand before cutting. If you want, you can glue the bottom of the pot to the base of your pineapple stand to prevent the pot from toppling over.
