How to Grow Zantedeschia

Place the zantedeschia in an outdoor or indoor location where it will receive at least six hours of morning sunlight or partial sun and shade. Locations should be free of strong winds. Plants placed in hot afternoon sun can sustain leaf burn.

Water the plant when the soil surface is dry. Zantedeschia plants will not tolerate drought. The soil must be kept moist, but not wet, especially during the summer months.

Use 10-10-10 nitrogen-phosphate-potassium slow-release granular fertilizer once during spring. Use the correct amount of fertilizer per the directions on the package for the type of container or garden area size.

Cease watering the garden plant in November. Allow the plant to rest four days after the last watering. Remove the bulbs from the soil and gently shake off the dirt. Place the bulbs in a paper bag covered with peat moss. Place the bag in a dry, dark area until spring.

Repot the container zantedeschia in November with new soil. Plant the bulb so it is twice its size deep. Add water every two weeks until spring, then water once a week or as needed to keep the soil moist.

Plant the outdoor bulbs in spring after the last chance of frost has passed. Plant the bulb in the ground at a depth twice its size. If the bulb is 2 inches long, plant the bulb 4 inches in the ground. Water when needed to keep the soil moist if rain is not imminent.
