How to Store Narcissus Bulbs to Wait for Planting

Whether you call them daffodils or narcissus, bulb flowers are a welcome sight in any spring garden after a long, dreary winter. Although most sales of spring bulbs peak in the late summer and early fall, the best planting time for narcissus or daffodils is in September or October. Instructions

    • 1

Loosely wrap the bulbs in newspaper. This protects the bulbs from impact damage.

    • 2

Locate a place in your home or garage where the constant temperature remains below 60 degrees F. This is the optimum storage temperature for bulbs.

    • 3

Ensure that the area in which you store you bulbs is both dry and cool, such as your basement, an unheated garage or the vegetable drawer of your refrigerator. Dampness can cause the bulbs to rot or develop mildew or mold, killing them.

    • 4

Label the newspaper with the name of the bulbs if you plan to keep them in the refrigerator to prevent other family members from thinking that they are edible tubers.
