Can Peace Lilies Live Outside?

Peace lilies (Spathiphyllum wallisii) are perennials that live year round outside in U.S. Department of Agriculture hardiness zones 10 and 11. These are tropical locations like Central and South Florida. These lilies grow well in protected areas in these zones.
  1. Geography

    • Peace lilies are not native to North America. This upright white flower grows wild from South Mexico through Central America to Peru. They are also native to the Philippine Islands, New Guinea and the Solomon Islands.

    Considerations

    • These cold-sensitive lilies grow in the shade in hot climates. They are planted in good-draining, fertile soil. Peace lilies are commonly grown as a ground cover.

    Cold Tolerance

    • Peace lilies are treated as summer annuals in cool climates. These plants do not survive freezing fall weather and are replanted outside each year in these areas.

    Container Plants

    • Peace lilies are grown as container plants in all other zones. These flowers grow well in the low-light conditions indoors.
