Peace lilies are not native to North America. This upright white flower grows wild from South Mexico through Central America to Peru. They are also native to the Philippine Islands, New Guinea and the Solomon Islands.
These cold-sensitive lilies grow in the shade in hot climates. They are planted in good-draining, fertile soil. Peace lilies are commonly grown as a ground cover.
Peace lilies are treated as summer annuals in cool climates. These plants do not survive freezing fall weather and are replanted outside each year in these areas.
Peace lilies are grown as container plants in all other zones. These flowers grow well in the low-light conditions indoors.
