Problems With Voodoo Lilies

Voodoo lilies are native wildflowers to European regions. The voodoo lily is also known as the dragon or stink lily. The flower of the voodoo lily opens on a tall spike that towers above the dark green leaves.
  1. Smell

    • The dark purple flower of the stink lily has the smell of rotten meat that attracts many types of insects, which in turn pollinate the voodoo lily.

    Heat

    • The voodoo lily is a hot plant, and the flower produces its own heat. Although the flower can be in a cool location, the internal heat of the plant can register as much as 110 degrees Fahrenheit.

    Pest

    • Voodoo lilies are prone to spider mites. To keep spider mites away from the lily, high humidity is needed, which is what the plant needs to survive, as well.

    Bulbs

    • Voodoo lilies must be removed from the ground in any region where temperatures drop below 50 degrees Fahrenheit. After the flower and leaves die back, the bulb must be removed from the ground and stored in a dark cool room until spring, when it is planted in the ground to bloom again.
