Does the Asiatic Lily Grow Back Every Year?

Asiatic lilies are perennial plants that grow back each year when given proper care. This lily variety produces a stalk stem with many blossoms at the top in a wide range of attractive colors. The plant blossoms in early June.
  1. Location

    • The perennial Asiatic lilies grow best in a garden that receives a minimum of six hours full sunlight, preferably during the morning and early afternoon. Amend the soil with 2 to 3 inches of organic compost before planting to increase the nutrient content and improve water draining around the plants.

    Planting

    • Plant Asiatic lilies is in the fall or early spring for the best results. Set the bulbs in holes that are 2 to 4 inches deep. The plants create an eye-appealing look when grouped in quantities of three or five. Space each bulb 8 inches apart to prevent crowding, which could prevent the plants from growing back each year.

    Winter Care

    • Asiatic lilies will grow back annually with minimal winter maintenance. Avoid pruning the stems when the flowers fade and fall. The stalks provide energy to the bulb for winter survival. Cut the stem off at ground level in late fall, after the first hard frost.
