How Deep to Plant Lily Bulbs in Florida?

Lily bulbs grow well throughout much of the United States, including Florida. Planting lily bulbs at the proper depth makes it easier for them to sprout, and it protects them from summer sun.
  1. Proper Depth

    • Plant lily bulbs about 8 inches deep in Florida. Place lilies in partial shade to protect them from the heat.

    Digging the Hole

    • When preparing the garden to plant lily bulbs, dig a hole about 1 foot wide and 1 foot deep. This allows organic material to be added to the hole before the bulb is planted.

    Planting

    • Add about 4 inches of compost or peat moss to the bottom of the hole. Place the bulb on top of the organic material and cover completely with soil.
