How to Garden Pink Perennial Lilies

When considering which pink perennial lilies to grow, you may want to think about bloom time. Asiatic lilies bloom in early June, the trumpets appear in July and the Oriental lilies show up in late July and August. Planting pink varieties of all three types will ensure a continuous supply of pink lilies in the garden all summer. Pink varieties to consider include Iowa Rose, Stargazer and Shantung. Plant your pink perennial lily bulbs in the fall.

Instructions

    • 1

Perform a soil pH test. Lilies prefer a pH of 6.5. Your county cooperative extension agent can advise you on how to adjust the pH of the soil in your area.

    • 2

Plant the pink perennial lily bulbs in the fall, at a depth three times the height of the bulb. Cover lightly with soil and then cover with a 4-inch layer of mulch. Allow the mulch to remain over the winter, pulling it back when you see new growth in the spring.

    • 3

Sprinkle 5-10-10 fertilizer on the soil in the spring and use a hand cultivator to scratch it into the top inch of soil.

    • 4

Keep the soil moist to a depth of 6 inches at all times.
