Plant Himalayan lilies in locations with moist, well-drained soil and partial shade. Choose sites that will accommodate the fully-grown plant -- 15 feet tall and 3 feet wide.
Add a 3-inch layer of organic matter, such as rotted leaves and compost, to enrich the soil in the planting site. Mix this into the soil to at least 6 inches.
Water the plants as needed to maintain moist, but not soaked soil throughout the growing season. Stop watering when foliage begins to wither.
Cover the area around the Himalayan lilies with mulch to retain moisture and keep weeds out.
Apply a balanced fertilizer as directed throughout the growing season as instructed on the label.
Cut the foliage on the Himalayan lilies in the fall only after all of the leaves on the plants have died.
