How to Grow Paper White Narcissus Bulbs Indoors

If you love spring flowers and it's the dead of winter, don't fret. Go to your local nursery and pick up a bag of paper white narcissus (Narcissus tazetta) bulbs. They are easy to grow and will bloom two to four weeks after planting. To bloom, the bulbs use up all their energy and will likely never do so again. Therefore, throw the bulbs away when the plants finish flowering. Consider, though, planting a new set of bulbs every two weeks for a more continuous bloom until spring finally arrives.

Instructions

    • 1

Fill a bowl or shallow container that is about 5 inches deep with decorative rocks, river rocks or marbles. Fill only about 3/4 of the way.

    • 2

Arrange the paper white bulbs on top of the rocks or marbles with flat side facing down and the pointy side up. Space them evenly, leaving about 1/4 inch of space between the bulbs.

    • 3

Fill the container with water just to the top of the rocks or marbles so it touches the bottom of the paper white bulbs.

    • 4

Set the container of bulbs in a bright location, but out of direct sunlight and away from heat sources, such as a heating vent or television.

    • 5

Replenish the water as necessary so it touches the bottom of the bulbs.
